Strives to Empower Cancer Patients and Survivors

We are raising funds to purchase sewing machines through M-Changa. These machines will enable cancer survivors to produce T-shirts and school uniforms, providing them with a sustainable income. This income will help them afford essential medications and improve their quality of life. By contributing to our M-Changa campaign, you can help empower cancer survivors economically and support their journey towards a better future.

The Birth of CAVAF

Our story echoes the journey of many families grappling with cancer in Kenya. Just as other organizations have championed causes, we aspire to stand as a beacon of hope, advocating for efficient care and support for all affected by cancer.

Through CAVAF, we aim to address critical issues—empowering families economically, improving access to healthcare services, and advocating for better documentation and care for those affected by cancer.

Our vision is resolute: to alleviate the burden of pediatric cancer, forging a future where children facing this challenge have a fighting chance at survival. Join us in this mission to rewrite the narrative of cancer in our communities.

“At CAVAF Kenya, we approach cancer from two crucial viewpoints:

  • The experience of the individual battling the illness.
  • The impact on families and individuals connected to the patient.

Our approach is multifaceted, addressing four key areas:

  • Empowering families economically to shield them from financial strain.
  • Breaking down stigmas and stereotypes, fostering open dialogues to encourage early detection and elevate survival rates among patients.
  • Collaborating closely with healthcare professionals and specialized experts, providing guidance and unwavering support.
  • Forging partnerships with fellow cancer organizations and communities to amplify our impact.

A Journey of Compassion and Empowerment

In the corridors of a social empowerment forum, two lives intertwined in a profound journey that gave rise to hope amidst adversity. A lady and I, both members of this forum, found ourselves united by a shared struggle against cancer’s relentless grip.

Her diagnosis with uterus cancer echoed through our community. Around the same time, my world was shaken by the news of my father’s battle with prostate cancer. In the face of our individual trials, a small gesture of solidarity bridged our paths. She sent a humble contribution, a gesture that spoke volumes about empathy and shared pain.

Moved by her compassion, I reached out to her, and in our poignant conversation, we shared the anguish and challenges endured by our loved ones. It was during this painful exchange that a seed of determination was planted. We realized that the financial burden of cancer could potentially strip our children of their future support system if left unaddressed.

Out of this shared concern for our families’ future, CAVAF (Cancer Victims and Affected Families) was born in 2018, officially registered in 2021. However, as we delved deeper, we recognized the urgent need for economic empowerment to safeguard our families against unforeseen hardships.

From this realization emerged the Friends of Vision self-help group in 2018. It became our beacon of hope, a collective effort to secure our children’s futures through financial empowerment.

Now, in our pursuit to fully revive CAVAF, Friends of Vision stands as a testament—a heartwarming tale born from painful experiences. CAVAF aims not just to support families affected by cancer but to empower them, ensuring that no child faces the threat of destitution due to this relentless disease.
